Amy is a spaceflight historian, author, YouTuber, and popular
space personality. She holds a Bachelor's degree with combined
honors in History of Science and Technology Studies and a Master's
in Science and Technology Studies.
Amy fell in love with spaceflight when she was seven years old;
researching for a second grade project on Venus she was captivated
by a cartoon image of two astronauts on the Moon. She needed to
know how and why men walked on the Moon, and she never let that
fascination wane. She found an outlet in her undergraduate studies
started blogging in November 2010. Blogging turned into writing -
her first book, Breaking the Chains of Gravity, was released in
2015 - and ultimately to her youTube channel, Vintage Space.
Amy has also written for The Daily Beast, National
Geographic, Discovery News, Scientific American, Ars Technica, Al
Jazeera English, and Popular Science. She is a co-host for the
Discovery Channel's online DNews channel.
Her first book which was based on her research for her master's degree thesis, Breaking the Chains of Gravity (Bloomsbury 2015), tells the story of America's nascent space program. It was her debut book and Kirkus Reviews called it a "must-read for anyone interested in the early history of space exploration." Booklist called it a "fine authorial debut." The book describes the early pioneers of rockets in the late 1920s, up to the formation of NASA.
